Alliott Group’s Leadership Forum and Managing Partners Meeting

Firm Leaders Gathered in San Diego for International Alliance’s North America Meeting

Senior professionals from some of the North American region’s leading mid-market CPA and law firms met in San Diego last month for Alliott Group’s Leadership Forum and Managing Partners Meeting.

The annual meeting, held this year at the Omni Hotel in San Diego from June 15-17, enabled attendees to share and acquire the strategic knowledge essential to planning a successful future for their firm, clients and staff, and to make valuable professional connections in different cities across North America and beyond.

The meeting attracted over 30 managing partners and members of executive committees from leading firms in the U.S. and Canada, but also from India and the UAE.

James Hickey, Alliott Group's CEO, comments: "Over the three day period, our facilitators blended discussion on and insights into strategic issues such as cyber security, digital marketing, succession planning, staff recruitment and employee retention. Attendees will have returned home energized and equipped with new ideas that allow them to have discussions with clients about real business issues. Being viewed by their clients as ‘business advisors’ rather than just ‘technicians’ is what differentiates people working at Alliott Group member firms."
Tammy Vogsland, Managing Partner at C&D llp adds: “Sessions led by Alliott Group members, but also leading consultants at IT, marketing and professional services firms highlighted that the ground is shifting under our feet in many areas. Client and staff behaviors and expectations have changed – firms such as ours must continue to innovate to provide better services and meet these challenges head on.  We all face huge challenges in terms of IT security – failure to understand the risks and put the right controls in place puts organizations in a perilous position that could destroy their business. Just one click on a link in an email could blow up your digital life.”

The Managing Partners Meeting, facilitated by managing partners at two Alliott Group member firms, explored issues such as how to differentiate a professional services firm as a great employer and how to achieve staffing goals related to finding, motivating and retaining high quality people.

Attendees also received an update from Mike Platt of The Platt Group on the results of the INSIDE Public Accounting 2016 National Benchmarking Report and how their firms compare, where growth is coming from, and the latest trends and predictions from futurists in the accounting industry.

Tammy Vogsland comments: “Alliott Group member firms, including C&D llp, continue to innovate and grow their services and client bases. Demand for tax services continues to grow, and M&A work is keeping firms busy. It was also reassuring to hear, at least for us, that despite advances in artificial intelligence and the use of a robot called ROSS to carry out research in the bankruptcy practice of one of the country’s largest law firms, we are not all about to be replaced by robots and clients do still value personal service very highly!”
